Here are supportive messages from some of the organisations amplifying the campaign to promote responsible use of flea and tick treatments. Are you ready to join them?

We encourage a practical and proportionate approach to the use of parasiticides, including around a pet’s water-based activities and grooming. It is essential that all involved collaborate to protect our combined health and the environment we share into the future. Tackling this One Health challenge is a joint endeavour.

British Small Animal Veterinary Association

RUMA Companion Animal & Equine welcomes this campaign and its focus on helping pet owners use flea and tick spot-on treatments responsibly. We believe that promoting awareness of responsible use of parasiticides amongst pet owners is a real priority and are proud to support this important initiative.

RUMA Companion Animal and Equine Chair, Gwyn Jones

AMTRA welcomes this campaign encouraging pet owners to use flea and tick spot-on treatments responsibly. Judicious use of these treatments will help ensure optimal animal health outcomes and mitigate potential negative environmental impacts. SQPs are on the frontline of supply and advice, helping owners choose and use these products safely, effectively and appropriately.

AMTRA CEO, Stephen Dawson

It is great to see the launch of this campaign to help pet owners use flea and tick spot-on treatments responsibly. While our focus at RUMA Agriculture is on responsible medicine use across livestock sectors, many people working in farming are also pet owners – often of working dogs and other domestic animals on farm – so these messages are directly relevant to the farming community too. The underlying principles of responsible medicines use and taking a risk-based approach to the use of parasiticides, applies across all animal species be that livestock, horses and pets, and we will continue to work in collaboration with stakeholders to champion these important messages .

RUMA Agriculture Chair, James Russell

It is fantastic to see the launch of this campaign. Spot on products contain environmentally toxic chemicals.  We detect these substances in the rivers and lakes that we love. This initiative should help society continue to benefit from access to these important pet health treatments while also protecting the health of the wider environment.

Professor in Environmental Science University of York, Alistair Boxall

The University of Plymouth supports this initiative to promote the responsible use of spot-on treatments. Small differences in how owners apply and handle these products can help protect pets while reducing risks to the environment.

Lecturer in Animal Physiology and Behaviour, Dr Katherine Herborn,

NOAH is proud to support the Be Spot-On Aware campaign, which highlights the importance of using spot-on flea and tick treatments responsibly and correctly. Spot-on parasite control plays a vital role in protecting animal health and welfare, and by following government advice and product guidance, pet owners can help ensure these medicines are used safely and effectively while also minimising any potential risk to the environment. Collaboration across the sector is essential to maintaining both healthy pets and healthy ecosystems.

NOAH Chair, Matthew Frost

The RSPCA is delighted to support the Be Spot-On Aware campaign.  Fleas and ticks can cause serious animal welfare concerns if left untreated, so it’s important everyone is aware of these risks but also how to use these products responsibly and make sure we are also protecting the environment.  The Plan–Apply–Protect guidance makes it straightforward for pet owners to use flea and tick spot-on treatments more responsibly. Small changes in how treatments are applied and disposed of can make a meaningful difference- for the animals we care for and for the natural environment we all share.  Owners should seek advice from their vets on which products are right for their pet.
